I was planning to spend Christmas in SF as usual, but happened to stumble across an extra vacation day and used it to spend the weekend with family and friends at home in LA!  It came to be an aggressive plan, considering I am planning to drive down to LA the very weekend for New Years.  Nevertheless, it was great times, time well spent, and well worth the drive!

12/23/2011: Beautiful drive down I-5! The drive back up was infinitely painful, for reasons I cannot disclose.

12/23/2011: I found Santa! The 21st century Santa apparently drives a Subaru.

12/23/2011: First stop: Merry Christmas weekend from Vibe!

12/24/2011: Christmas Eve dinner @ Beach 활어! Love their uni rice mix.

12/24/2011: Celebrating Christmas @ home with cake & wine! Took a long time to convince my dad that good wine must be opened.

12/26/2011: Best part of Corona? Quiet Starbucks with plenty of seats!

sfpoopoo got together for the first time in a long time for a small holiday get-together.  The potluck dinner and a white elephant gift exchange was planned last minute, but everything ran smoothly… not to mention with plenty of food for everybody.  I didn’t realize that the gifts for the exchange game had to be something you already own, and although it was hard finding something worthwhile that I can use as my gift it definitely added a lot of humor to it.  For example, I got a banana phone- it’s hard to explain because it’s ridiculous, but it’s hightech considering it connects to your phone via bluetooth and all.

Potluck dinner goodness!

Doug & Will

There were definitely some interesting gifts.  From the head scratcher to an assorted mix of 라면.

Lezlee & Cathie’s chocolate 건배 뽀뽀

We had a small rock-out session at the end.  Everybody is very talented!

Of course, a group picture.  Thanks for the pictures Ahnah!

i’ve been meaning to write something for months, but once you’re out of rhythm, you’re out of rhythm and it’s hard to get back.  again, it’s hard to track everything thats happened in the second half of 2009, so i’ll just start anew with christmas.

having used up most of my vacation days, i decided to stay close to home and drive up to the redwoods national park.  i used to go on annual camping trips back in michigan, and although this wasn’t necessarily camping per se, it was nice to go to a park, away from busy streets and city lights.

can you see how old it is?

shrooms!

agate beach

yes, i know what you’re thinking.  you can probably make an entire house with just one log!

here you go, just wish IIII thought of this!

this tree was said to be 5,000 years old! 3/4 dead, 1/4 alive.  and yes, i drove my car thru it!  well worth the $6, haha.

quick shout out to the lost whale inn, you guys were awesome!

december 24-28, 2008

although i didn’t get to spend time with the family this christmas weekend, i had a blast hanging out with my new friends in sf.

a few people came over my place on christmas eve and we had a small but nice dinner, complete with french onion soup, salad, bread/cheese, steak and pasta.  not to mention some really, really good wine; oh how awesome it must be to know how to cook well~  we then ate some dessert while watching ‘love actually’, possibly the best christmas movie in the last few years.

i sluggishly got up on christmas day and started watching ‘lord of the rings’.  i was going through the story in my head, and i couldn’t remember how it ended.  then i realized that i’d never seen the last one, so of course i started watching all the entire trilogy and before i knew it, it was time to go to a friend’s place for a hot pot dinner and drinks (perhaps more drinks than hot pot).  the hot pot was delicious (again, how awesome it must be to know how to cook well), the alcohol kept on flowing, and of course the rock band was amazing as it always is.

(saw this while shopping for hot pot ingredients, reminded me of no thai!)

(hot pot!)

(everybody loves rock band)

the day after christmas was nothing more than work and rest.

on saturday, i went to a house warming/holiday party for some more food and drinks.  i had a great time as i got to meet some new people and get to know some better.  on sunday, waking up still a bit (or a lot…) dizzy from the night before, somehow made it to lunch and the theatre to watch ‘the curious case of benjamin button’.  i then came home, and instead of going to church took a nap, did laundry, and packed for what would be an awesome trip to LA for a week!
