me. life. world.

March 11, 2010

I’m old.  To commemorate my old age, SG took me out to a special dinner at Sakae Sushi in Burlingame.  The restaurant apparently moved in the last couple of years, and since my GPS is old we had some trouble finding the restaurant.  We had to call for directions and walk up and down California Ave., and by the time we got there they had given away our seat at the sushi bar!  But it was no problem… we sat at a table and ate some appetizers while waiting for a seat to open up.

What a pretty little tea set!  (Tea costs $5, I did not know that… should’ve drank more tea)

Instead I took this (the lady in the orange is shocked at what I’m about to do…!)

and did this!! (I’m JK… we shared, I swear).  This beer can was huge though… our waitress laughed at me because I was so shocked at how big it was (that’s… what she said!?  wait, I can’t do it to myself huh?)

Nobu Oysters was it called?  Delicious!

The oyster was down there some where… mmmm~ uni so good!

Also got agedashi tofu, can’t skip agedashi tofu as appetizer when eating with SG

It’s rare we’ll get whatever sushi we want, especially off the sushi menu since it gets expensive fast.  But I got to order whatever I wanted today because… SG said I could.  We waited just a little bit after finishing our appetizer and as if it were planned, a seat opened up at the sushi bar.  We quickly moved seats and ordered all our favorites, from the sashi plate to uni, ama ebi and hamachi!  We ran out of beer in the middle and ordered some hot sake as well and the sushi chef threw up some birthday sake shots for us at the end!

Sashimi if deceivingly filling, but we ordered some extra sushi rice because it felt a little empty without rice.

Uni!  I used to not eat these little mushy things back in high school, but I <3 them now.

Ama ebi (aka raw shrimp/sweet shrimp).  Shrimp sushi is cooked shrimp.  If you want to try raw shrimp, you have to ask for sweet shrimp or ama ebi.  It’s usually a bit on the pricer side but…

… you get the fried head along with it!  (Ama ebi is also mucho delicious)

My favorite go to sushi… hamachi!  The chef gave us a good cut.

Thanks Sehgyung! (yes my eyes are swollen… don’t worry about it…)
