February 12-15, 2010

My 이모’s family moved to Orlando from Korea a few months ago so our family took a trip down there to visit their new home.  My nephews are the same age as when my sister and I first moved to the US, so I was interested to see how they were adjusting to the new environment.  I’m glad to say that I breathed a sigh of relief to see they were getting adjusted well to their new school.  They actually came back from school on Friday with a shoebox full of valentines day cards and candies they exchanged with their classmates.  It’ll be a tougher adjustment when they go back to Korea in a few years, but no need to worry about that now.  I was a little sad that my uncle couldn’t get located to a city closer to LA/SF, because Orlando is, well… really far.  But at the same time at least it wasn’t to some remote city in Idaho (nothing against Idaho in particular).  Besides, it’s the “Happiest place on Earth!”

First lunch at Brio~ the beginning of a LOT of food and alcohol.

Epic first night

I went to Disney World a long time ago, maybe when I was 10 or so and remember very little of it.  We went to Disney World’s Animal Kingdom this time and I was really impressed.  My sister and I thought it was a little funny that they had signs to Rafiki’s Planet Watch, DinoLand, and… Asia, as if it was some fantasy land.  I guess we should be thankful it’s even included as part of the park.

My maturity level is on par with a 7 year old, so I wasn’t worried about having fun at the park but the park would have been entertaining for people of all ages.  ”It’s Tough to be a Bug” show and the “Lion King” show was simply amazing and I wouldn’t mind watching it again and again.

So good!  They were all so talented.

Disney World!

The Safari ride was fun too.

I wonder if I liked my toys as much as my nephews like dinosaurs…

The next day we headed out to Daytona Beach for some fun in the sun… except there was no sun.  There was however, the Daytona 500 race which did not add any value to our trip, only traffic.    It was cool to drive by the speedway though, the loud engines of the cars going by… I’ll likely never get this close to another NASCAR race in my life.  After running around the beach with the kids we spent the night at Universal Studio’s Citywalk.

This kid was bouncing off the WALLS most of the ride, then BAM, silence.  I look over and he was pwned.  He must’ve over exerted himself the first half of the ride.

My mom feeding the seagulls.

JM decided to keep his distance.  Good call buddy.

Lunch at Ocean Deck!

Whoever decided to hand out crayons and color books to kids at restaurant… thank you.

Ribs, fish & chips, crabs and clams!

Why hello!

This post is already too long.  Bye bye!
