As part of a West Coast tour for my aunt, my parents drove up from LA with her to visit me and get a brief tour of SF.  It was a short stay and likely the only time my aunt will ever visit SF, so I decided to take to them to Caprice in Tiburon, CA.  I thought it would be a good opportunity to show her the GG bridge and the city along the way.  Dinner turned out to be better than planned, and we also stopped by City Hall and Twin Peaks on the way back.

The next day we got up early to take a tour of Napa.  It was actually my first time visiting Napa as well, so I couldn’t really play tour guide this day.  We tasted wines at Cuvaison, a winery recommended to me by a former boss that has a house in Napa, and Silverado, a big wine brand that I was sure my dad would recognize.  Although the weather wasn’t very cooperative, the on and off showers actually made the scenery very dramatic and… green.

They arrive!  Aunt, mom, me.

Caprice!  Good food, beautiful setting, excellent service! I recommend going for lunch to get a full view of the bay and GG bridge.

My mom smacked my face for this pose… I hope it was worth it.

Before…

After!  I bet nobody else has ever shared food like this at Caprice.

Cuvaison has a new beautiful tasting room!

No sun… but beautiful scenery nonetheless!

The parents left soon after Napa, and after a quick nap I headed out to dinner with SG.  We were planning on going to Jackson Fillmore in Pac Heights, but it was way too full so we settled for the nearby Via Veneto.  It was our first time there and our dishes were really good.  The restaurant had an authentic feel and the staff was extremely nice.

Their garlic dipping sauce was a two thumbs up!

There is a hidden gem in the outer richmond called Oyaji.  SG’s friend invited us out for dinner a few months ago, and we decided to go back for seconds this week.  Advice: make reservations.  When we initially walked in (it was fairly early, I say around 6pm), the host greeted us nicely and warned us that we might not get a seat that night.  Disappointed, we decided to wait for just a little bit, and lucky us, a seat opened up!  The second time wasn’t as good as the first, but it was still a delicious meal~

Although I grew up a Wings fan all my life, especially during my elementary and middle school days when I lived in Michigan, I never got a chance to watch the Wings play live at Joe Louis Arena.  It was tougher to buy tickets back then because sites like stubhub and craigslist didn’t exists to coordinate a second market of buyers & sellers like  today.

Hockey has faded in popularity a bit these days, but I finally got a chance to watch my Wings at the HP Pavilion in San Jose with the Michigan Alumni Club of SF.  Although I’d imagine the Pavilion’s atmosphere pales in comparison to Joe Louis, and its history of championships, it was still a great time.  We even got to go to the back room and meet a former Michigan player (now on the Sharks) and I was THIS close to coach Babcock in the tunnel!  We also won 4-2, muhahaha.

took the caltrain down which was surprisingly convenient!  and the palo alto station got a waiting room/coffee store!

GO WINGS!

Some recognition during half time~!

Ahsome paying attention… not really, more like posing

After meeting up with Rhie Rhie for some coffee, I came home and started cooking dinner so that I can use the leftovers for lunch on Monday.  Then ring ring, “Genki Ramen in 30 mins!”  I finished cooking dinner and ran out to the sunset to catch dinner with the usual crew.  The ramen was good, although I wasn’t a fan of the slab of butter on top.  Yes, I ordered the butter & corn ramen, but who would’ve thought they just throw a slab on top?!!  After dinner, I refused to go to Genki crepes a few blocks away for more food.  I don’t know why I refused, because I ended up following everybody and eating it anyway.  If I was full after the ramen, now I was super full.  And fat.  But it was all well worth it.

I watched Wicked at the SF Orpheum Theater this weekend and got to experience my first ever live musical (unless Phantom of the Opera count as a musical, does it?!).  I feel so cultured!  The show lived up to its hype and I thought it was put together very well.  The show carried your emotions up and down and the 3 hours or so didn’t feel very long at all.  I highly recommend it, especially if you’re in SF since they’re ending their run here in a few months.  I also suggest buying the tickets in advanced because they can get quite expensive last minute.

We sat really close… a little TOO close.  But it was cool to see everybody up close, a little scary, but I got over it…

Inside Orpheum Theater, not too much to look at from the outside, but super nice inside!

To burn time between the show and dinner, we stopped by the SF Public Library.  Look at all these Korean books! Or more like books in Korean!  (No, I did not borrow any…)

Not too many pictures from dinner, but this was my “girly” dessert.  Panna cotta good~
